Google’s next Pixel chip has leaked early, and while it looks like a solid step forward on paper, it may still fall short in one key area: gaming.

Fresh details around the Tensor G6, expected to power the Pixel 11, suggest Google is finally making a meaningful push on CPU performance.

According to the leak, the chip will use ARM’s newer C1-series cores, including a high-performance “Ultra” core clocked at around 4.11GHz and multiple “Pro” cores at 3.38GHz. That’s a notable shift for Tensor. Previously, Tensor has historically lagged behind rivals from Apple and Qualcomm when it comes to raw processing power.

There’s more going on under the hood, too. The Tensor G6 is tipped to move to TSMC’s 2nm process. This change could improve efficiency, reduce heat, and extend battery life, all areas where previous Pixel phones have struggled. For everyday use, that combination could make the Pixel 11 feel noticeably faster and more stable than its predecessors.

But the gains might not carry over to graphics.

The same leak points to a possible switch to a PowerVR-based GPU, and that’s where things get a bit uncertain. Early indications suggest the GPU may not deliver a major performance jump over the previous generation. As a result, gaming performance could remain largely unchanged. In practice, that means demanding titles and graphics-heavy workloads may still not be the Pixel’s strong suit.

That said, this isn’t entirely surprising. Google has rarely positioned Pixel phones as gaming devices, instead focusing on AI features, camera processing, and overall software experience. The Tensor G6 seems to follow that same playbook.

Elsewhere, the chip could bring a few notable upgrades, including a shift to a MediaTek M90 modem for better connectivity and power efficiency. It could also feature a new Titan M3 security chip and improved on-device AI capabilities.

Taken together, the Tensor G6 sounds like a more balanced upgrade than previous generations, just not one aimed at gamers.
