Samsung’s next flagship foldable could be shaping up as one of the most efficient upgrades in the Galaxy Z Fold lineup so far. A new leak suggests the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will deliver a larger battery without adding any extra weight.
According to tipster Ice Universe, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will retain the same 215g weight as the Galaxy Z Fold 7. That’s a notable detail in itself because foldables have traditionally struggled to balance durability, size, and battery capacity.
What makes the leak more interesting, however, is what’s reportedly happening inside that unchanged frame. The Fold 8 Ultra is tipped to feature a 5,000mAh battery, up from the 4,400mAh cell in the previous generation. If these details are accurate, Samsung would deliver a meaningful boost in endurance for a device class that still struggles to keep up with regular smartphones.
Alongside the larger battery, the device will also support 45W fast charging, keeping it in line with Samsung’s recent high-end charging standards. While not a radical leap on its own, it helps round out what appears to be a more efficiency-focused upgrade.
Another change is a slight reduction in thickness when unfolded, with the Fold 8 Ultra said to measure around 4.1mm when unfolded. That’s marginally slimmer than its 4.2mm-thick predecessor, though most other dimensions and display sizes are to remain largely unchanged. In other words, Samsung won’t alter the core form factor; instead, it is refining the internal engineering.
The Fold 8 Ultra is expected to be unveiled alongside the (wider) Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 at Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event, rumoured to take place on July 22.
If this leak proves accurate, Samsung’s Ultra foldable won’t look dramatically different from its predecessor, but it may fix one of the biggest complaints users have with Samsung’s book-style foldables.
