Samsung’s Galaxy S27 could arrive without any major camera hardware upgrades, according to a new leak.
Tipster Lanzuk on Naver claims Samsung may not make any meaningful changes to the base Galaxy S27’s camera hardware, potentially leaving the phone with the same core setup used across recent standard Galaxy S models.
That doesn’t mean the Galaxy S27 will take bad photos, of course. Samsung has been very good at improving camera performance through software, image processing and newer chipsets. The Galaxy S25, for example, delivered consistent camera results despite not feeling like a major camera reinvention.
Still, if the leak is accurate, this could mean Samsung is stretching the same camera hardware across yet another generation. That may be harder to sell when makers of the best camera phones continue experimenting with bigger sensors, improved zoom systems and more advanced computational photography features.
For most users, the difference may not be obvious at first. Smartphone photography now relies heavily on processing, with AI and image signal processors doing a lot of the hard work behind the scenes. Better night shots, cleaner portraits and more natural colours can all come from smarter software rather than a brand-new sensor.
But software can only go so far. A newer sensor can capture more light, reduce noise, and give Samsung’s processing more data to work with. That matters, especially when flagship phones are expected to improve every year.
It’s also worth remembering that the Galaxy S27 is still a long way from launch, so this could change before the phone becomes official. Early hardware leaks are useful, but they’re not final confirmation.
If Samsung does reuse familiar camera hardware again, the company will likely need to lean heavily on AI features and image processing upgrades to make the Galaxy S27 feel new. Whether that’s enough to compete with the best smartphones will depend on how much real-world improvement Samsung can squeeze out of the same setup.
