TL;DR

  • Google Fit users will have the option to migrate their historical data to the Google Health app.
  • This option is scheduled to become available later this year.

There are some big changes happening to the Fitbit app. Not only is the app getting a redesign, but it’s also getting rebranded as Google Health. As you settle into the new experience, you’ll soon be able to transfer all of your various fitness data from Google Fit.

The change from Fitbit to Google Health is part of the tech giant’s goal to bring together all of your fitness, health, and medical records into one place. While the Google Fit app isn’t going away, at least not yet, it does serve as a hub for health and fitness data collected from various apps and trackers. As a result, it’s full of information you might want to bring over to Google Health.

You won’t be able to migrate that data right now. However, Google eventually plans to open the option to move your historical data from Fit to Health. The company did not offer an exact date, but says the option to transfer this data will become available later this year.

Although the Fitbit app is getting rebranded, Google will still be selling Fitbit-branded hardware. In fact, the Mountain View-based firm just launched the Fitbit Air, a display-less WHOOP competitor.

The Google Fitbit Air is the company’s first screenless fitness band.

The Google Fitbit Air combines Fitbit’s trusted health tracking with Google’s smarter insights in one app. It works with both Android and iPhone and brings fitness, sleep, medical records, meals, and hydration tracking into a single, easy-to-use health hub.
