Flipkart Minutes expands quick-commerce network to 1,000 micro-fulfillment centers

Walmart-backed Flipkart announced that its Flipkart Minutes quick-commerce service has built a network of 1,000 micro-fulfillment centers—small, strategically located warehouses that enable deliveries in minutes—less than two years after launch. The company plans to scale the network to 1,500 micro-fulfillment centers by the end of 2026, accelerating its push in India’s fast-growing quick-commerce sector.

Key facts

  • Current micro-fulfillment centers: 1,000
  • Target by end of 2026: 1,500 centers
  • Cities covered: more than 130
  • Postal codes served: 8,000+
  • Reported order growth: ~400% year-over-year
  • Customer retention growth: ~20% year-over-year

Expansion strategy and regional growth

Flipkart said it is opening between 75 and 100 micro-fulfillment centers per month while expanding into additional cities across India. Growth is increasingly coming from smaller cities and towns: the company reported more than 4,000% year-over-year growth in these markets after adding roughly 90 new cities. Examples of fast-ramping markets include Patna, Guwahati, and Siliguri, while Lucknow is cited as one of Flipkart Minutes’ best-performing cities.

Shifting customer behavior on Flipkart Minutes

What started as a service for everyday essentials is evolving into a broader shopping habit. Flipkart’s head of Minutes, Kunal Gupta, told TechCrunch that demand is growing in categories beyond groceries—electronics, beauty and personal care products are increasingly popular. Orders on the platform have grown about 400% year-over-year and customer retention is up roughly 20%.

Competitive landscape: Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart and Amazon

India’s quick-commerce market is intensely competitive. Blinkit remains the market leader by micro-fulfillment center count (reported at 2,243 centers), while Zepto, Swiggy Instamart and Amazon are all aggressively expanding.

Amazon has accelerated its Amazon Now service, which is available in more than 15 cities with over 500 micro-fulfillment centers. Amazon plans to expand to 100 cities and more than 1,000 centers, while broadening product categories beyond groceries into apparel, electronics and home goods.

Market outlook and infrastructure

Analysts and industry data show India is becoming a testing ground for the next phase of e-commerce, as companies turn quick commerce from grocery delivery into a broader shopping platform. Bernstein estimates India already has over 5,500 dark stores, with forecasts suggesting the number could rise to around 7,500 by 2030 as companies expand into smaller cities and diversify assortments.

What this means for shoppers and retailers

Faster fulfillment networks can change shopping frequency and basket composition. Flipkart says Minutes is being used alongside its main e-commerce platform to drive more frequent purchases and encourage higher order values in categories such as fresh produce and daily essentials.

Outlook from Flipkart

“We will continue to expand rapidly, will not slow down after 1,000 stores as well, and we are going all in,” Kunal Gupta said, underscoring Flipkart’s commitment to scale the Minutes network.
