Samsung’s rumoured wider foldable may have just made its first public appearance in a South Korean restaurant.
The images, which first surfaced on the DCInside Galaxy Gallery forum, show a device housed inside one of Samsung’s familiar anti-leak prototype cases.
While the protective shell conceals most of the design, the phone’s noticeably wider proportions still stand out. Therefore, it offers what could be the clearest real-world look yet at Samsung’s wide-style foldable ahead of its expected launch next month.
The sighting adds weight to recent leaks suggesting Samsung is preparing a significant redesign for its Fold lineup. Rather than sticking with the tall and narrow shape seen on previous models, the upcoming Z Fold is expected to adopt a much wider aspect ratio, bringing it closer to a traditional smartphone when closed and a more tablet-like experience when unfolded.
According to prominent leaker Ice Universe, Samsung may have dropped the previously rumoured “Wide” branding altogether, instead launching simply as the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The ‘regular’ Z Fold design isn’t going anywhere though; reports suggest the narrower design could survive under a new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra branding. However, Samsung has yet to confirm any naming plans.
The leak follows several others in recent weeks. Screen protector images have already hinted at a substantially wider display, while previous reports point to a near-square 4:3 inner screen designed to make multitasking and media consumption feel more natural.
Rumoured dimensions suggest the handset could measure 161.4mm wide while remaining just 4.3mm thick when unfolded. However, the broader design may entail a few compromises.
Current rumours suggest Samsung could drop S Pen support on this model and scale the camera system back to a dual 50MP setup, marking a departure from the triple-camera arrangement expected on the other Fold variant.
For now, the leaked images offer little more than a glimpse of the device’s overall shape. Still, with Samsung widely expected to unveil its next generation of foldables at a Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22, it may not be long before we find out whether this wider Fold is the future of Samsung’s foldable lineup.
