Xiaomi unveiled the 17T series this week – the two phones cost €100 more than their 15T predecessors, but they also bring in some important upgrades.

Starting with the Xiaomi 17T, the phone now features a 50MP 5x/115mm periscope camera to match its Pro sibling. The camera is capable of 30cm macro shots as well as 10x lossless zoom. That’s quite an upgrade from the old 2x/46mm lens. Anyway, the tele camera is joined by a 50MP 1/1.55” main, a 12MP ultra-wide and a 32MP selfie camera.

The 17T is smaller than the 15T as the new model has a 6.59” display, a 12-bit 120Hz OLED panel. However, with the magic of Silicon-Carbon, the battery capacity grew to 6,500mAh (+1,000mAh compared to the 15T). For charging, the phone supports 67W if you use a HyperCharge adapter and 50W if you use a USB PPS adapter. Reverse charging is an option too and you can power other devices at up to 22.5W. Check out our review for details on how the cameras and the battery perform in real-world testing.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro kept its display at 6.83” in size, a 12-bit OLED panel with even faster 144Hz refresh rate. The battery on this one is even bigger – 7,000mAh (+1,500mAh) and supports both 100W wired (HyperCharge and PPS) and 50W wireless charging.

The 17T Pro has the same 50MP 5x/115mm periscope as the 17T along with a larger 1/1.31” sensor in the main (1.2µm vs. 1.0µm pixels). Additionally, it uses the flagship Dimensity 9500 chipset versus Dimensity 8500 on the vanilla 17T. For camera samples and benchmarks, check out our review – we also have a video review out.

As mentioned above, the 17T series is €100 more than the 15T was last year. And since the two phones launched only a couple of days ago, there are no discounts yet.

But that is not to say that there are no deals – Xiaomi is offering both phones as a bundle with a tablet of your choice, either the cheaper Redmi Pad 2 9.7” or the premium Xiaomi Pad 8.

The Redmi tablet has a 9.7” 120Hz IPS LCD and a Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 chipset. There’s only 4GB of RAM, which is quite limiting, but the 64GB storage is expandable via microSD. The battery is a decently sized 7,600mAh cell with 18W charging. Normally, this tablet costs €200, but with the bundle you can have it for €100.

The Xiaomi Pad 8 has a larger 11.2” 144Hz IPS LCD and a powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset. It has more RAM and storage out of the box, but there is no microSD slot. The slate runs on a 9,200mAh battery with 45W charging and 22.5W reverse charging. Normally, this slate would cost you €450 (though mi.com has a €30 discount at the moment), but with the bundle the price is €300.

The Xiaomi 17 Max and 17 Pro Max are not available in Europe – this leaves only the small Xiaomi 17 and the expensive Xiaomi 17 Ultra as higher end models than the 17T series. But if you are looking for an alternative to them, check out the Poco F8 Ultra.

Poco F8 Ultra

It’s cheaper than the vanilla 17T yet it brings a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset that rivals 17T Pro’s MediaTek chip. And it has the same 1/1.31” Light Fusion 950 sensor as the Pro, plus a 50MP 5x/115mm periscope and even a 50MP ultra-wide (vs. 12MP on the 17T models). The screen is even bigger at 6.9” (it’s a 12-bit 120Hz OLED), but the battery is a bit smaller at 6,500mAh (100W wired, 50W wireless charging).
