Xreal unveiled its new Aura glasses – these are spatial computing glasses that run Android XR, giving them support for a wide range of applications out of the gate.

The glasses feature an Optical See-Through (OST) display that covers 70° field of view. This virtual display is created by two Sony Micro-OLED displays with 1,920 x 1,200px resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The displays are transparent, so you can see your surroundings clearly and people around you can see your eyes. However, there is also electrochromic dimming for when you want to concentrate on what’s “on screen”.

If you are a heavy multitasker, you will be able to have up to 5 floating app windows at the same time. Naturally, Gemini is available as a standard part of Android XR.

These glasses have a split design – the newly announced Snapdragon Reality Elite chipset is inside the “compute puck” and runs Android XR and your apps. There will be two configurations available: 12/256GB and 16/512GB.

The 4,455 mAh battery (34.84Wh) is also in the puck, which moves weight away from your head. Inside the glasses is the Xreal X1S spatial co-processor – this handles the things that need low-latency processing and sensors and display tasks.

The glasses have 6 DoF tracking. And they do have cameras with an LED that will warn people around you when said cameras are active. Besides voice commands to Gemini, hand-tracking is the default input method. There are two USB-C ports on board – one goes to the glasses, but the other can be used for external power or video input (DisplayPort in).

Snap launched the Specs AR glasses just yesterday – those cost $2,195 and run proprietary software instead of Android XR. To be fair, Xreal hasn’t announced the Aura pricing just yet, but the fine print promises that it will cost less than $1,500 (excluding taxes).

If you want the Xreal Glasses, you have two options. First, you can try to reserve a Founder Pass – only 2,000 are available (and a quarter are already gone), but this is worth a $300 discount. You can also do a regular reservation for $100 and get $200 in credit when the Aura launches.

Check out the Xreal Aura reservation page for more details. The glasses will be out this fall.
