This is the brand-new Xiaomi Watch S5 and at €179, it’s Xiaomi’s middle option between the Smart Band 10 Pro and the full-fledged WearOS-equipped Xiaomi Watch 5. It looks and feels premium, and it packs a massive 815 mAh battery, which Xiaomi claims will last up to 21(!) days on a single charge. Now that we’ve got our hands on a review unit, let’s see what comes in the box.
We got the Jungle Green colorway, which features a cool green strap, made of a mix of fluororubber and nylon braided materials. You could easily change it to something more stealthy as it is a standard 22mm strap. The only accessory in the box is the two-pin magnetic charging puck, which is standard for Xiaomi smartwatches.
Watch S5 features a 1.48-inch AMOLED display with up to 2,500 nits peak local brightness. It’s plenty sharp and comes preloaded with a nice selection of watch faces. The watch bezel features a neat forged carbon element around the screen for some added style.
Both the bezel and body are made from stainless steel, which has a reassuring feel and some premium-feeling heft. We also have a crown element and a shortcut button, both located on the right-hand side.
This is a Xiaomi HyperOS 3 watch, so it does not come with all the bells and whistles you’d find on a WearOS watch, but it covers all of the basics as well as the usual health and activity tracking features. There’s an onboard speaker and microphone for voice calls, but our international version is lacking cellular connectivity and NFC capabilities.
Our full review is already underway, where we’ll go over the usual tests and see if Xiaomi’s battery claims are legit.
