Following in the footsteps of the Google and Samsung’s respective flagships, Xiaomi has added AirDrop support via Quick Share to the 17T Pro.

This means Xiaomi has closes the gap between sharing files between Android and iOS, a move that follows the Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26 series which were among the first Android devices to gain native AirDrop compatibility through Quick Share rather than relying on third-party workarounds.

AirDrop has functioned as one of the more tangible practical advantages of the iPhone ecosystem, allowing fast file and contact transfers between Apple devices in a way that Android users historically had to replicate through less reliable intermediary applications.

Google announced the Quick Share AirDrop integration as part of a wider compatibility push that has gathered pace across the Android ecosystem in 2026, with the feature being more of a structurally sound solution than the third-party file-sharing tools that previously filled the gap, many of which required both sender and recipient to have the same application installed before a transfer could begin.

Xiaomi has so far confirmed on X that only the 17T Pro is an AirDrop-capable device within its lineup, though further models are expected to follow in the coming weeks as the rollout broadens across the manufacturer’s portfolio.

Google has also indicated that additional Android brands will bring AirDrop support to Quick Share beyond Xiaomi, with Honor and OnePlus among the manufacturers expected to add compatibility as the feature expands across the wider Android ecosystem.

That broader push reflects Google’s sustained effort to reduce the friction that has traditionally accompanied switching from iPhone to Android, with the company also developing a more complete data migration system within Android 17 that targets feature parity with Apple’s own device transfer process.

The combination of Quick Share AirDrop support, RCS messaging, and the improved migration tooling in Android 17 collectively address the three areas where iPhone-to-Android transitions have historically involved the most compromise for users moving between ecosystems.

Xiaomi has not confirmed a timeline for when additional devices beyond the 17T Pro will gain AirDrop support through Quick Share.
