Xiaomi is shaking up its T series this year by offering two sizes for the first time: the larger 6.83-inch 17T Pro and the more hand-friendly 6.59-inch 17T.

Despite the size difference, both phones share the same headline feature – a Leica-branded 5x telephoto camera that promises a big boost to long-range photography.

The telephoto addition represents the most significant structural change to the T lineup in recent memory, with both handsets now carrying the same 50MP 5x periscope lens with OIS, 30cm macro capability, and up to 120x AI Ultra Zoom, bringing a level of optical range that has traditionally sat above the T series’ price positioning.

Alongside the telephoto system, Xiaomi introduces Leica Live Moment to the T series, a feature that captures the motion and expression leading up to a shot rather than a single frozen frame, with support across all three rear focal lengths on both models and extending into Portrait mode through a separate Leica Live Portrait implementation.

The Pro variant adds further camera differentiation with 8K video recording at 30fps, 4K at up to 120fps, and a larger 1/1.31-inch main sensor compared to the 1/1.55-inch unit in the standard 17T, while both share the same 50MP main camera with a Leica Summilux lens and a 12MP ultra-wide covering a 120-degree field of view.

Battery capacity climbs substantially across both models with silicon-carbon cell technology, with the 17T Pro carrying a 7000mAh battery and 100W wired and 50W wireless HyperCharge support, and the 17T packing a 6500mAh cell with 67W wired charging, representing increases of 27% and 18%, respectively, over the previous generation.

Performance comes from distinct chipsets at each tier, with the 17T Pro running the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 on a 3nm process and the standard 17T using the Dimensity 8500-Ultra on 4nm, with both supported by Xiaomi’s 3D IceLoop thermal management system to sustain performance under demanding workloads.

Pricing starts at £649 in the UK for the 17T, while the 17T Pro comes in at £799. Both are available with 256GB and 512GB of storage, as well as a Pro-exclusive 1TB. You’ll also get a bundle of trial subscriptions covering Google AI Pro, YouTube Premium, and Spotify Premium for buyers in eligible regions.
