Today’s NYT Connections puzzle has one of those zany purple categories again, where you need to find hidden words that relate to each other buried inside four completely unrelated words. Read on for clues and today’s Connections answers.

The Times has a Connections Bot, like the one for Wordle. Go there after you play to receive a numeric score and to have the program analyze your answers. Players who are registered with the Times Games section can now nerd out by following their progress, including the number of puzzles completed, win rate, number of times they nabbed a perfect score and their win streak.

Hints for today’s Connections groups

Here are four hints for the groupings in today’s Connections puzzle, ranked from the easiest yellow group to the tough (and sometimes bizarre) purple group.

Yellow group hint: Ooh, pretty!

Green group hint: Did not intend to do that.

Blue group hint: Tie it up.

Purple group hint: Look for words that refer to competitions.

Answers for today’s Connections groups

Yellow group: Glimmer.

Green group: Involuntary actions.

Blue group: Kinds of knots.

Purple group: Starting with units in competitions.

The green words in today’s Connections

The theme is involuntary action. The four answers are blink, hiccup, shiver and sneeze

The blue words in today’s Connections

The theme is kinds of knots. The four answers are bend, bowline, hitch and sheepshank.

The purple words in today’s Connections

The theme is starting with units in competitions. The four answers are gamelan, matchstick, pointer and setback.
