Huawei unveiled the MatePad Pro Max tablet earlier this month, and today it’s taken the unusual step of revealing the chipset at its helm. Ever since the US sanctions started against the company seven years ago, Huawei has sometimes been very cagey about revealing which exact chips power its devices and we’ve come not to expect transparency on this front by default.

Now at a HarmonyOS conference in China, the company just came out and revealed that the MatePad Pro Max is powered by the Kirin T93 Pro SoC. Unfortunately, Huawei still hasn’t said anything about it other than the name. But hey, that’s better than nothing.

Chinese tipsters on Weibo speculate that this might be the Kirin 9030 Pro without a mobile data chip. The Kirin 9030 Pro is found in the Mate 80 Pro Max, Mate 80 RS Ultimate, and Mate X7, so it’s the company’s current flagship. This obviously bodes well for the MatePad Pro Max’s performance.

In fact, at the aforementioned conference, Huawei claimed that the MatePad Pro Max has improved overall system performance by 45% (though it’s unclear compared to what), thanks to the SoC but also its efficient heat dissipation system, as well as HarmonyOS 6 and the rich HarmonyOS ecosystem. We’re not sure how the ecosystem affects performance, but okay.
