HBO is keeping Game of Thrones fans occupied this year with spin-off shows, including a new season of House of the Dragon, which we now know will premiere on HBO and HBO Max on June 21.
Season 3 of the GoT prequel, which tells the story of House Targaryen, will consist of eight episodes, airing weekly on Sundays. HBO on Monday also dropped a new teaser trailer for the show, where Matt Smith’s Daemon says to Emma D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra in a voiceover that she now has “power no man has ever wielded.” Tom Glynn-Carney’s Aegon II wants to kill his brother, Rhaenyra appears briefly in anguish and “doom and ruin” abound.
House of the Dragon is set two centuries before GoT and is one of two GoT prequel series; the other, the half-hour A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, premiered in January. After a price increase last fall, an HBO Max subscription with ads runs $11 a month or $110 a year.
