TL;DR

  • Create My Widget is an upcoming tool that allows you to describe what you want from a widget, and Gemini Intelligence builds it for you.
  • If Google doesn’t execute your vision perfectly on first try, you can edit Gemini’s output until your widget does just what you need it to.
  • In addition to Android phones and tablets, Create My Widget will also be a feature on new Googlebook laptops.

Ahead of Google I/O 2026, we’re getting an early look at some of the most impactful changes about to hit Android, and Gemini Intelligence sounds like it’s going to be the name of the game for the biggest AI-powered upgrades to land on Google’s mobile platform in years. In addition to big lifestyle improvements coming to our keyboards through Gboard’s new “Rambler” dictation mode, we’re also learning about a powerful new tool about to change our approach to widgets, as Gemini Intelligence lets your craft bespoke solutions through Create My Widget.

What will Create My Widget let you do?

For as useful as good Android widgets can be, letting you get information at a glance without having to duck into apps one-by-one, they’ve always been a bit limited. Even though many widgets offer a fair amount of customization, you’re always just moving parts around within a narrow set of pre-defined constraints. If you ever wished you were a dev, and could roll your own custom widgets to do pretty much whatever you wanted, you’re in luck, as that’s basically the dream that Create My Widget promises.

Simply tell Gemini Intelligence what you want from it, and it will do its best to spin up a one-of-a-kind widget that fits your needs. Maybe you’re traveling from the US to Europe and can’t make heads or tails of all the Celsius temperatures you’re seeing in forecasts and on thermostats. You could memorize all that 5/9 business yourself, or you could just ask Gemini to drop a F↔C conversion widget right on your phone’s home screen.

If Gemini’s first attempt isn’t quite to your liking, you’re free to continue to revise, suggesting changes or doing a few manual edits yourself. And if you simply have no idea where to get started, Google will prompt you with a handful of categories of useful widgets you can further tweak to your heart’s content.

Create My Widget’s output is built with a combination of Gemini and information from Google Search. What that means, though, is that it can’t directly work with third-party app data — so you can’t make your own custom Tinder widgets, for example.

When can you get a shot at trying Create My Widget yourself?

As a Gemini Intelligence feature, access will get started with Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices, beginning sometime this summer. And because widgets aren’t exclusive to phones and tablets, Google has also confirmed that Create My Widget is similarly due to be present on new Googlebook laptops.
