There’s always a new variety of Oreo cookies on the shelves, but this might be the most unusual one yet. Oreo and Korean superstar band BTS are collaborating on an upcoming Oreo featuring purple cookie wafers and a special Korean brown sugar pancake creme filling.
The brown sugar pancake creme is inspired by hotteok, a filled pancake that’s a popular Korean street food, which, according to the press release, was the band’s favorite childhood snack.
The cookies feature a bright purple wafer, the first time Oreo has used this color, and it comes with plenty of meaning. Purple is a nod to the band and its famous fandom, the BTS Army, to whom “I purple you” means “I love you.”
To celebrate the band’s 13th anniversary, the purple wafers feature 13 embossed designs. Designs include the names of BTS members, messages to the BTS Army, BTS’s iconic lightstick and the Korean-originated finger-heart gesture popularized by K-pop.
The new BTS Oreos have 13 embossed designs.
But if you want to snap up these musical munchies, you’ll need to plan ahead. With the massive BTS fanbase, these cookies will be a hot item.
The limited-edition Oreo and BTS cookies will be available for presale beginning June 1 at OREO.com/UnwrapTheCollab. The cookies should start appearing in stores on June 8, but only for a limited time.
