Nothing is doubling down on AI with a feature that feels a lot more practical than flashy, dubbed Essential Voice.

This is a new voice-to-text upgrade designed to make dictation on its phones faster, cleaner and a bit smarter.

At its core, Essential Voice is a rethink of how voice typing should work day-to-day. Instead of just transcribing what you say word-for-word, Nothing says the system can clean up filler words and tighten sentences automatically.

As a result, you don’t end up editing every message after dictating it. It also supports auto-detection for up to 100 languages, which should make switching between languages far less clunky.

There’s also a layer of AI commands baked in. You can say things like “translate this into Spanish” at the end of a sentence and the system will handle it instantly, but it goes further than translation.

Commands like “send to my email” can trigger actions. Here, Essential Voice automatically fills in details like your email address. In another example, mentioning a restaurant can prompt the AI to attach location details. This suggests a more context-aware approach than standard voice typing.

What makes this notable is how deeply it’s integrated. Essential Voice can be triggered either from the keyboard or via Nothing’s Essential Key, meaning it’s built into the core experience rather than living as a separate app. That puts it closer to tools like Wispr Flow, but with the advantage of being native to the device.

Rollout is happening soon. Nothing says Essential Voice will land on the Phone (3) and Phone (4a) Pro later this month. Support for the Phone (4a) will follow in early May.

It’s a relatively simple idea on paper, but one that could make a real difference if it works well. Voice typing has been around for years, but it’s often messy and unreliable. Essential Voice looks like Nothing’s attempt to finally make it feel seamless enough to use every day.
