Anthropic’s Claude Tag: Virtual coworker for Slack
Anthropic’s Claude Tag upgrades the standard Slack bot by building context from channel history, working proactively across threads, and completing multi-step tasks before posting results. Instead of a one-off reply, Claude Tag acts more like a virtual coworker that can learn from public channels, follow up on unresolved threads, and access connected tools when permitted.
How Claude Tag works
When you add Claude Tag to a Slack workspace it appears as its own user. Administrators can grant the app access to selected channels and connect it to data sources, tools, or codebases. Once enabled, Claude Tag:
- Builds context from messages in public channels it can access, so it can continue conversations where they left off.
- Completes tasks in stages, then posts a consolidated response back to a Slack thread.
- Operates proactively with an ambient mode that can remind teams about tasks, schedule future work, or reopen unresolved threads.

Prices and privacy
Claude Tag is available in beta for Team and Enterprise plan customers. Usage billing depends on where Claude Tag is used: tagging it in a direct message is billed to the individual Claude account, while usage in a channel is billed to the organization.
Primary owners or organization admins control Claude Tag’s usage. Because limits are consumption-based rather than per-user, teams should monitor spending limits—once a set limit is reached, Claude Tag will decline additional work.
Claude Tag retains channel history it can access, but admins can review and delete retained data. Slack conversations with Claude Tag follow your organization’s Slack retention policies and are kept separate from your Claude account history. If you disconnect Claude Tag from Slack, conversations are deleted after 30 days.
Availability & access
Anthropic announced (via a press release) that the existing Claude app in Slack will be renamed to Claude Tag on Aug. 3. The feature is currently available in beta for Team and Enterprise subscribers. Enterprise customers gain additional role-based controls for who can use Claude Tag and what data it may access.
How to add Claude Tag to your workspace
- Visit the Claude or Anthropic integrations page and install the Claude app for Slack to your workspace.
- Grant channel access only to the channels Claude Tag needs to see, and connect any approved tools or data sources.
- Set role-based permissions (Enterprise) and configure consumption/spending limits as needed.
- Test Claude Tag in a private direct message and a permitted public channel to confirm behavior and retention settings.
