If you are constantly making VoIP calls on apps like WhatsApp, Telegram or Messenger from your Android phone, then you may soon be able to dial contacts on those apps straight from your default phone dialer app. Google has been testing this feature for a while now, and it seems like it is finally ready for a wider rollout under the Calling accounts domain.

The folks over at Android Authority were able to get it running on a Pixel 9 using the latest Android Canary 2605 build. The Calling accounts feature was seen inside the settings for the Phone by Google app, which is the Pixel native dialer.

There is a new option that allows third-party apps to appear in your call history, which means you’ll be able to directly dial your contacts on those apps without jumping to the VoIP app where you got the call from.

The feature relies on Android’s telecom framework and allows third-party apps to register their calls so they can appear in the native phone app just like any regular cellular call. The feature will be available on any phone running Android 16.1 and up.
