TL;DR

  • Google is upgrading Android’s Privacy Dashboard with real-time indicators and activity logs for AI assistants like Gemini.
  • The feature will let users see which AI assistants were active and which apps they accessed in the last 24 hours.
  • Google hasn’t announced a rollout timeline yet, but the update could become an important transparency feature as AI agents gain deeper control over Android phones.

Android’s Privacy Dashboard is getting a major upgrade to prepare for the AI agent era on Android. Alongside today’s Gemini Intelligence announcement, Google revealed that Android phones will soon show real-time indicators and detailed activity logs for actions performed by AI assistants on your device. The new additions aim to give users more transparency into what AI-powered agents are accessing and doing behind the scenes as they begin handling tasks on their behalf.

Privacy Dashboard is a feature Google introduced with Android 12 to help users view what data apps access on their phones.

Google says that when Gemini automates an app’s interface, you’ll be able to select “View progress” to see the assistant’s actions in real time. However, if you want to keep a track of all the actions Gemini has taken throughout the day, you’ll “soon” be able to do so through Android’s Privacy Dashboard.

Specifically, Google says, “We’ll soon be enhancing Android Privacy Dashboard to show which AI assistants were active and which apps they used in the last 24 hours.” This suggests the Privacy Dashboard won’t just track Gemini’s activity across your apps, but potentially any AI assistant or agent running on an Android phone.

Unfortunately, Google hasn’t shared when this Privacy Dashboard update will roll out or what the new interface will look like. Still, as AI agents become increasingly central to the smartphone experience and gain deeper access to apps and system features, this kind of transparency tool feels less like an optional extra and more like a necessity.
