Google is expected to preview Android 17 or at least some of its key features during its Android Show I/O Edition later today, but Samsung decided to jump the gun and announced its Android 17-based One UI 9 beta program for the Galaxy S26 series.

The One UI 9 beta program will be available to Galaxy S26 users in select markets, including Germany, India, Korea, Poland, the U.K. and the U.S starting this week. They can apply to join the beta program via the Samsung Members app.

The accompanying press release details the changes coming with the new firmware update. Samsung Contacts gets access to the Creative Studio AI art tool for creating custom profile cards directly inside the app.

The Quick Panel now brings improved controls with independent toggles for screen brightness, sound and media player.

In terms of accessibility, Samsung is bringing a combined TalkBack voice guidance package, which was previously offered separately by Google and Samsung. Text Spotlight now works in floating windows for easier reading. Samsung is also adding adjustable Mouse Key speed. Elsewhere, Samsung Notes is getting new pen line styles and decorative tapes for better personalization.

Samsung will also automatically flag suspicious app activity when it detects high-risk apps. This security feature will block the execution and installation of files and also recommend adequate measures to keep your device secure.
