OpenAI is rolling out a new ChatGPT model today, focusing on making outputs more useful, personal and accurate. According to OpenAI, GPT-5.5 Instant will provide clearer, more succinct and less overly-formatted answers to everyday queries. The new model will limit follow-up questions and “gratuitous emojis” to make responses less cluttered.

The developer says GPT-5.3 Instant hallucinates significantly less than its predecessor for “high-stakes prompts” across topics like finance, law and medicine, and better performance across image reasoning, science and math.

Improved personalization and memory control

OpenAI is also leaning into improved personalization, saying GPT-5.5 Instant can use past chats, files and connected Gmail accounts to answer prompts tailored to you, your workflow and tone.

The company is also rolling out new memory sources, giving you more control, context and visibility into what information ChatGPT used to create the personalized responses.

“When a response is personalized, you can see what context was used, such as saved memories or past chats, and delete or correct it if something is outdated or no longer relevant,” OpenAI’s announcement states.

“Memory sources aren’t shown to others if you choose to share a chat. You remain in control of what’s in your memory: you can delete chats you no longer want to be cited, delete or change items in saved memories in settings or use temporary chats that don’t use or update your memory.”

GPT-5.5 Instant is available Tuesday, replacing GPT-5.3 Instant as the default model in ChatGPT and in the API as “chat-latest.” OpenAI said GPT-5.3 Instant will remain available for three more months for paid users, and then will be retired.
