Samsung’s next foldables may be getting a feature the company has so far avoided: built-in magnetic wireless charging.

Newly leaked dummy units of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 suggest Samsung could finally integrate magnets directly into its phones. This would be a change. Rather than relying on cases, Samsung might build magnets in.

The leak, shared by tipster Sonny Dickson, shows metal mock-ups of Samsung’s upcoming foldable lineup, including the standard Fold 8, Flip 8 and a rumoured Fold 8 “Wide” model. While dummy units don’t confirm final specs, they’re often based on early manufacturing templates and give a decent idea of what to expect.

The standout detail is a visible ring on the back of the devices, which strongly hints at built-in magnetic alignment for wireless charging. That would mark a shift for Samsung, which currently relies on Qi2-compatible cases to replicate the snap-on convenience seen in rival ecosystems. If accurate, this could be the first time Samsung bakes the feature directly into its hardware.

Beyond that, the leak reinforces earlier rumours about a wider Fold model. Side-by-side comparisons of the dummies suggest the Fold 8 Wide won’t just be a minor tweak. Instead, it looks noticeably broader, potentially addressing long-standing complaints about narrow outer displays on previous Fold devices.

There aren’t many confirmed upgrades yet, but there are a few hints. The Fold 8 could see a slightly larger battery, while the Flip 8 is expected to stick closer to its current setup. As always with early leaks, nothing here is final. This is especially true since these models could be based on third-party design templates used by accessory makers.

Samsung’s next Unpacked event is still a few months away, so there’s plenty of time for more details to surface. But if the magnetic charging rings turn out to be real, it would be a notable first for Samsung’s phones – a small but meaningful quality-of-life upgrade for everyday use.
