Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 looks set to deliver a noticeably cleaner cover display, with leaked renders pointing to a 2.5mm punch-hole cutout that cuts the current model’s front camera hole down by nearly a third.

That 32% reduction in cutout size comes courtesy of what Ice Universe describes as “new technology” in display integration, though the details and specifics of this manufacturing process remain unknown.

BREAKING! The front camera cutout on the Fold7 measures 3.7mm, while the Fold8’s is only 2.5mm in diameter. Samsung appears to have adopted a new technology that significantly reduces the size of the front camera hole.

The shift from 3.7mm on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to 2.5mm on the Z Fold 8 represents the most substantial single-generation reduction in punch-hole size across Samsung’s foldable range, a progression that mirrors the gradual cutout shrinkage Samsung has pursued across its Galaxy S series over the past several years.

The cover display punch-hole has remained a visible compromise on the Z Fold series, and shrinking it to 2.5mm brings the external screen closer to the uninterrupted viewing experience that the internal display’s under-display camera already attempts to deliver, albeit through a different technical approach.

Whether Samsung applies the same 2.5mm cutout technology to the 8-inch inner panel remains unconfirmed at this stage, though the visual impact of a hole that size on a display of that scale would be considerably less noticeable than the equivalent cutout on the narrower cover screen.

The leak also confirms that Samsung is not pursuing an under-display camera solution for the cover display on the Z Fold 8, a choice that reflects the company’s ongoing prioritisation of image clarity over seamless aesthetics for the external panel, given that UDC technology continues to produce softer results than a conventional punch-hole camera at the same resolution.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8 at its summer Unpacked event, with a launch window of July or August 2026 currently indicated by leaks, alongside a rumoured Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide variant that has separately surfaced with full dimensions.
