Xiaomi’s upcoming 18 Pro series could introduce a new way to keep on-screen content away from prying eyes. Reports suggest the phones will feature a hardware-level privacy display.

The claim comes from well-known tipster Digital Chat Station, who says Xiaomi is currently testing a new 2K display that integrates privacy protection directly into the panel. It sounds similar to the display on Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, which is also rumoured to be coming to the Galaxy S27 Pro.

Moreover, the system is said to combine both hardware and software-based privacy controls. These are designed to limit visibility from side angles. This approach does not rely purely on software filters.

While it did not explicitly name the Xiaomi 18 Pro lineup in the initial post, follow-up comments on Weibo suggest the feature is intended for Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship series. Notably, this series is expected to launch in September.

Alongside the privacy-focused screen tech, the Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are also expected to retain one of Xiaomi’s more unusual design choices. Namely, a secondary rear display. First introduced on the Xiaomi 17 Pro series, the rear screen is now said to grow to around 4 inches. Consequently, this could potentially offer more space for notifications, selfies, and quick interactions.

Underneath, both models are tipped to run on Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, positioning them firmly in flagship territory. Display sizes are expected to differ between the two models. The 18 Pro will feature a 6.3-inch screen. Meanwhile, the larger 18 Pro Max could come with a 6.9-inch panel.

Battery capacity is also a key differentiator, with rumours pointing to a 7,000mAh or larger battery on the Pro model. Camera hardware could be equally ambitious. Both devices are said to feature dual 200MP rear sensors.

As always with early leaks, nothing is confirmed yet. Still, if these details prove accurate, Xiaomi looks set to push both privacy and hardware specs further than before in its next flagship refresh.
