OnePlus 15 now gets AirDrop support through Quick Share

OnePlus 15 owners are now starting to receive support for AirDrop transfers through Android’s Quick Share system.

The feature has been spotted rolling out to OnePlus 15 devices this week. This follows an earlier confirmation from Google that the flagship would be joining a growing list of Android phones capable of receiving files from AirDrop users. Moreover, reports from OnePlus community members and Android Authority suggest the rollout is now underway. However, it appears to be arriving gradually.

For anyone who regularly switches between Android and Apple devices, this could be one of the most useful updates the OnePlus 15 has received since launch.

AirDrop has long been one of the stickiest parts of Apple’s ecosystem. It makes it incredibly easy to send photos, videos and files between iPhones, iPads and Macs. This has left Android users relying on alternatives such as Quick Share. While Quick Share works well between Android devices, it traditionally hasn’t played nicely with Apple’s wireless sharing system.

The new support helps bridge that gap. While OnePlus hasn’t detailed exactly how the integration works behind the scenes, other Android phones that already support the feature can receive content shared via AirDrop through Quick Share. As a result, this creates a much smoother cross-platform experience.

The timing is particularly relevant for OnePlus. While several Oppo and Vivo devices are also gaining the feature, the OnePlus 15 stands out. That’s because it’s one of the few Android flagships still widely available in the US. In the US, the iPhone remains dominant and AirDrop is used daily by millions of people.

What’s also notable is that the rollout doesn’t appear to require a major software update. On other compatible Android devices, AirDrop support has largely arrived through server-side changes. This means users may simply see the feature appear without installing a full operating system upgrade.

It’s not quite enough to erase the convenience advantage Apple enjoys with AirDrop. However, it’s another example of Google steadily removing the friction between Android and iPhone users.

And for OnePlus 15 owners who regularly swap files with friends, family or colleagues carrying iPhones, that could make a surprisingly big difference.
