Xiaomi has officially confirmed when its next flagship phone is arriving, with the new Xiaomi 17 Max set to launch in China on May 21.
The phone will debut alongside several other products. These include the Xiaomi YU7 GT, Xiaomi Band 10 Pro, and a range of smart home devices.
While Xiaomi has already released multiple phones in the Xiaomi 17 lineup including the standard Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and 17 Ultra – the 17 Max looks like it’s aiming squarely at users who want big specs without compromise.
The headline feature is its 200MP main camera, which will once again carry Leica tuning, continuing Xiaomi’s long-running camera partnership. Xiaomi hasn’t shared detailed camera specs yet, but the company is clearly positioning the 17 Max as another photography-focused flagship.
The phone is also shaping up to be one of Xiaomi’s biggest devices yet. It features a 6.9-inch display, matching the size of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. Additionally, it runs on Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset.
Arguably, the more eye-catching upgrade, though, is the battery. Xiaomi has confirmed the 17 Max will pack a massive 8000mAh battery, which is significantly larger than the 6,000mAh cell inside the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. That alone could make it one of the most endurance-focused flagship phones of the year. This is especially notable at a time when most premium devices still hover around the 5,000mAh mark.
Xiaomi has also confirmed three colour options at launch: Pixel Black, White, and Sky Blue.
So far, the launch appears to be limited to China, with no official word on global availability yet. That said, Xiaomi’s flagship phones often make their way to international markets later on. However, naming and specifications can sometimes vary outside China.
Between the oversized battery, Leica-branded 200MP camera, and flagship chipset, the Xiaomi 17 Max already sounds less like a minor addition to the lineup. Instead, it sounds more like Xiaomi’s attempt to build an all-out power user phone.
With the launch now just days away, it probably won’t be long before Xiaomi reveals exactly how far this “Max” branding really goes.
